We Don't Take American Express
As I walked up to the Haagen-Dazs counter at the South Park Mall in Charlotte, a 6 ft. 5 in. tall guy was counting money. Office Depot Salesman Upselling "De-Crapify"...
Office Depot Salesman: Is this going to be on the internet? (Asking a customer looking at a laptop)
Customer: What?
Office Depot Salesman: Are you going to be on the internet?
Customer: Yeah.
Office Depot Salesman: Would you like me to de-crapify it and install McAfee anti-virus software for you?
Customer: What do you mean "de-crapify"?
Office Depot Salesman: Well, all of these computers come with tons of crap like free software that you'll never use. We can remove all of it for you.
Customer: How long does it take?
Office Depot Salesman: About an hour to hour and a half.
Customer: Is it free?
Office Depot Salesman: No, it costs $59.99
Customer: Oh.
Me thinking: So let me get this straight...the computer manufacturer gets paid by these companies to install junk software and then Office Depot upsells their customers to get rid of it? If Dell, HP, IBM, or whoever didn't install extra software, how much more would the computer be? My guess is that it would be $60; and the customer wouldn't have to wait an hour and half either. Shame on you, all of you.
